Church Groups

Banner Group

The Banner Group consists of a small group who meet together fortnightly to use their needlework talents to create beautiful, meaningful pieces of wall art to hang in the sanctuaries and contribute to the atmosphere of peace and reverence that we all look for there.  Future plans are many and varied and will be decided by the members, in consultation with the minister.

New members and visitors are always welcome, times of meetings are announced in the Order of Service.
We meet on Tuesday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in the Laird’s Loft at Forgandenny Church.  Everyone is welcome to join us!

Social Committee

Picture
Members of the Social Committee arrange catering and provide support for special services and church family events such as Communion services, stated meetings, etc.  We cement the link between congregational members and the communities of Bridge of Earn and Forgandenny.  Our social evenings take the form of St Andrew’s Nights, Burns Suppers, quiz nights, concerts with various singing groups and musicians.  If you have a good idea about events, let us know.

Women's Group

Twenty years ago, a small group of women decided that it would be a good idea to have an evening once a month where they and others like them could meet for coffee, a chat and take time to relax and get to know each other better.  The group has continued to meet since then and has speakers, activities and outings covering a wide range of interests. We are also involved in fundraising for a variety of charities and currently host lunches in November and April for that purpose.
Picture
The Group is affiliated to the Church of Scotland Guild and makes an annual contribution to the excellent work being carried out by Guild Projects.  Membership of this group comprises of those within and outwith the Church Community.

We meet in the Church Hall at Dunbarney as per the syllabus running from September to April. New members are always welcome.

Ladies Exercise

Picture
This popular class meet on Monday mornings at 9.45 am in the Church Hall at Dunbarney.  It mostly attracts the ‘retired’ and lasts for one hour but women of all ages are welcome.
The exercise to music is enjoyable and varied and includes aerobics and stretching and circuits – a fun morning guaranteed!  A fee of £3.00 per morning covers payment to Sophie our instructress and a contribution to church funds. Any surplus is given to the Church or charities agreed by the members.  We often have walks round the local area and tea/coffee and scones at a restaurant nearby.   Further information can be had from Lindsay: 01738 812248.

Men's Exercise

Picture
The Class meets in the Church Hall at Dunbarney on a Tuesday from 4.30 – 5.30 pm.  The age range of the class is 55 – 75 years.  There are 17 men on the register with an average weekly attendance of 13/14.  Cost is £3 per class.  You only pay on the nights you attend.
This is a fun evening but Sophie (the instructor) puts the guys through their paces and makes sure there is no slacking!  The format of the evening is a 20 minute warm up followed by circuit training which helps with overall fitness levels.  This well-established class has been going for several years.  Men of all ages are welcome to come along.

Further information can be had from Avril: 07977 290268.

Chatterbox

Picture
Chatterbox is essentially a parent and toddlers' group with the assisted help of aunties/grannies drawn from the church family.  We have just celebrated our 10th anniversary in March 2020.  The doors open on a Thursday morning from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. Tea, coffee, juice water and toast is served throughout the morning. It is a very relaxed, happy and welcoming atmosphere.
There are lots of toys, outside play and crafts. We have between 15 and 22 children currently in attendance plus mums, dads, childminders, grandpas, grannies or anyone caring for a child!  Everyone is welcome.  There is a wonderful warm atmospehere.

Dunbarney Flowers

"Flowers beautify our Church - Where Flowers Bloom, So Does Hope"
(Lady Bird Johnstone)

Flowers are gifted by members of the church family either in memory of a loved one or just because someone wishes to decorate the church. Normally, people  gift money, and flowers are bought and arranged by a dedicated small band of ladies in our church. We have rotas for arranging, dismantling and delivering.
The flowers are then gifted to others in the parish - whether they are members or not - after the Sunday services.  Names of recipients are passed on to me and discussed with the minister.  People ask, "why have I received flowers?" The answers are varied.  It could be because of an illness, a special event, a thank you or just to say we are thinking of you.  If you would like involved with flowers, please contact Helen on 07751 577771

Forgandenny Flowers

Forgandenny Church stands in the middle of our small village and as such enjoys being very close to our wonderful countryside.  The congregation appreciates the flowers and foliage that surrounds us and the Church flowers tend to reflect this.

Members of the congregation volunteer on a rota system and have a free hand to do any arrangement they like, and they are always beautiful and well accepted.  Following our Church service the arranger takes the flowers to a person in the village who they think would appreciate the thoughts and love from the Church family.

Dandelion Group

Picture
Think of the seeds on a beautiful dandelion clock - and the enjoyment a child has in blowing them off and in watching them being carried along by the wind to take root who knows where.
We are a knitting group and we make shawls to be given away (not sold). We call ourselves the Dandelion Group because (like that child) we enjoy what we do, and think of the things we make a little like those seeds in the wind. We pray as we knit, asking that God would bless the shawls so that wherever they go, the person who receives them would know God’s love wherever they are. It’s as simple as that!

If you would like a shawl, or know anyone who might find one a comfort, then please get in touch.

Prayer Group

As you might expect, we pray together when we meet each Sunday, and the order of service sheet we take home with us has prayers for us to use throughout the week. However, as a congregation we also try to pray at other times and in other ways. In the garden around Dunbarney Church there is a prayer walk, with stepping stones and plaques and benches - all of which are there to enable anyone and everyone to take a little time out to spend in quiet conversation with God.
Picture
From time to time an extra temporary path is laid out on the grass around the large wooden cross, in the shape of a labyrinth. As we walk its twists and turns, we slow down, approaching God a little more consciously than we might have done otherwise. Occasionally, we have special prayer initiatives, such as a day when the church building is open for anyone to come in and pray. On these occasions there may be ‘prayer stations’ set up, which are simply short activities and suggestions to help us find the words to pray along a particular theme.

Pastoral Care

Picture
Dunbarney and Forgandenny Pastoral Group has a number of members who are willing to get alongside folk who are feeling lonely or facing challenges in life for many different reasons, including bereavement and illness.  We meet every two months in the Church Hall at Dunbarney to support each other and to learn how we can best be there for people.
Our Kirk Session is keen to set up a network of support for people in the congregation and parish reflecting the caring nature of our congregation.  They are clear that this is open to people who wish our support, we are never judgemental and will meet where and when is best for people.  If you wish further information, please contact our Pastoral Group Coordinator - Christian: 07739 311630

Discipleship Groups

Following Jesus is all about a new way of life. Our lives should be characterised by great passion for honouring God in the way we live.  To be a follower of Jesus - who preached love and forgiveness - requires us to do likewise and practise the same, particularly when it comes to those who differ from us.
Picture
Throughout the year, we offer different opportunities for people to meet together, such as midweek fellowship meetings, Lent study groups, and other discussion groups, all of which enable us to grow, share and learn from one another and deepen our faith.

Messy Church

Picture
Messy Church is a way of experiencing Church for families, involving lots of fun.  It is an activity-based session for all ages to learn more about the love of God in Jesus.  It operates bi-monthly on Sunday afternoons from 3pm - 5pm in the Church Hall at Dunbarney.  At the end of the session everyone enjoys a light tea together.  Look out for announcements of our next Messy Church on our Facebook page and the 'Announcements' tab of this website.

DVD Nights

DVD nights for children run bi-monthly on Friday evenings in the Church Hall at Dunbarney from autumn to spring.  We begin at 7pm and normally finish at 9pm.  Children and young people are given a small bag of popcorn on arrival.  Soft drinks and hot dogs are enjoyed halfway through the film.  Children are encouraged to bring their own blanket/cushion/bean-bag, etc to sit on and to relax.  Entry is by donation.

Look out for the next showing on either Dunbarney & Forgandenny or Bridge of Earn Facebook pages and on this website.
