World Day of Prayer - 1st March 2024

2/4/2024

Join us in Dunbarney Church Hall on Friday 1st March at 1.30pm (soup and refreshments from 12.00) as we join others all over the world, to pray for peace and justice. Led by ex-Moderator, the Very Rev Dr Andrew McLellan, there will be many participants from churches across the LECT.
The Word Day of Prayer is for everyone - men, women and young alike. Further details to follow .
This year the service for the World Day of Prayer has been written by the Christian women of Palestine who, despite all the suffering and injustice in the land of the Holy One, have maintained their sumud (steadfastness) though mostly non-violent resistance, and a genuine effort to advocate and work for justice together with Muslims and Jews who believe in equal rights. They ask everyone to bear with them in love and to pray for an end to all human suffering; to stand with them to achieve security and peace for all people around the world.

Crossreach is the Social Care work of the the Church of Scotland.  It helps to fulfil the mission of the Church of Scotland by offering loving care, in Christ’s name, to the thousands of people who turn to it each year for support.  It has been a truly unprecedented time for CrossReach.

Please take time to read the most recent Impact Report here about the support and services CrossReach offers.  It's a brilliant read!

In the report you will be able to read about:
  • the recovery journeys of people once gripped by addiction
  • a parent receiving a hug for the very first time from their 18-year-old child
  • giving people with a diagnosis of dementia their voice to speak out against climate change, through art
  • sowing the ambition for meaningful employment in our pupils
  • achievements of our employees who support the thousands of people that choose CrossReach for support.

Please continue to support CrossReach.

Presbytery Mission Plan

At a meeting of the Presbytery of Perth on Saturday 12th February, The Planning and Development Committee presented its Presbytery Mission Plan Interim Report based on the instruction from the 2021 General Assembly that the number of centrally funded ministries in Perth Presbytery would be reduced from 26 to 16.5 ministries.

In its Interim Report the committee lays out how this reduction of 9.5 ministries could be achieved with proposals of how ministries will be allocated across the Presbytery area.  It is likely that that there will be many readjustments in all areas of the Presbytery including our area here at Dunbarney and Forgandenny as we become part of a network of Lower Earn Churches possibly served by one minister. As well as looking at ministries there are also proposals for the future of buildings across the Presbytery area and it is proposed that Forgandenny Church – as one of fourteen churches - could be considered for closure.

Following on from Saturday’s meeting, the Presbytery of Perth is now entering a period of eight weeks of prayer, reflection and respectful dialogue and consultation with ministers, Kirk Sessions and other interested parties.  Our Kirk Session here at Dunbarney and Forgandenny will be given the opportunity to meet with the members of the Planning and Development Committee during the consultation period and the Session will be able to put forward their views and other ideas which may help the delivery of the plan and the future of God’s work in our area. Kirk Sessions are also being encouraged to meet with other Kirk Sessions in their area to discuss the plan and to consider ways that they, through working together, could make the plan work.  The Kirk Session will keep members informed of how the plan is developing.

We strongly encourage people to read the full report here

It may be helpful to watch the recording of the presentation using the following link before a discussion takes place at the local level.

Advent Trail 2021

Similar to an Advent Calendar, during each day in December, a new letter will be revealed in the window of a home or a shop in the village.  Using the map (that shows all the locations) find the letters and crack the Christmas Code.  Come along to a special community gathering in Dunbarney Church garden on Christmas Eve at 6.30pm and tell us the code.  If you have cracked the code there will be something you can take away.

Please note: at Forgandenny, all the letters will be posted to the fence of the primary school.

Enjoy Advent this year and be part of the Advent Trail.
